The Hanyang University Northern California Alumni Association (President Tae-seok Um) held a “Hanyang University Alumni Dinner and Appointment Ceremony for the 3rd Global Mentoring Corps” on the 16th to welcome the visit
of newly appointed President Woo-seung Kim. The event, held at a mountain lodge in San Jose, was attended by 60 alumni, including distinguished guests such as Consul General of San Francisco Park Joon-yong, Televideo Chairman Kyu-bin Hwang, and CPA Jong-hyuk Lee. They welcomed President Kim, presented letters of appointment to the new mentors of the 3rd cohort, and offered words of encouragement. President Kim stated, “The mentoring corps is playing a significant role in establishing a virtuous cycle in the startup ecosystem by passing on their rich practical experience to their juniors,” adding, “At the university level, we will actively support this initiative with the central goal of fostering global innovative startups through the 3S Innovation Strategy.”
The mentoring team consists of 31 alumni active worldwide, primarily in Silicon Valley, to provide practical career support for aspiring entrepreneurs and junior students hoping to expand globally. In particular, the mentors, who are active in diverse fields such as investment, law, and global networking as well as key areas leading the Fourth Industrial Revolution like artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous driving, and big data, are not only mentoring startups but also delivering special lectures to students via video conferencing.
President Kim returned home on the 17th after completing a schedule that began with a visit to the Eastern region, followed by visits to alumni companies such as Uber and Marvel in Silicon Valley, Stanford University, and the launch ceremony and board meeting of the International Foundation.
